Here are some interesting little facts or suppositions about our fave snake. ^_^.
Facts
You can actually hear Aabo in the English version of Pokemon. Watch The Flame Pokémon-athon and in the party scene where Lara's walking around with Ash-tachi, in the background plays a song called 'Pokemon Ondo'. Aabo and Dogasu (Koffing) 'sing' in that song, so you can hear, if you listen very closely "do do dogasu, do doga do" "sssha!" The "sssha!" is Aabo.
Arbok hates/is afraid of injections.
It likes eating eggs.
It holds no aminousity towards Pikachu really.
Once, it even obeyed Ash. But it was a trifling thing. Ash ordered Ekans, Koffing, Geodude and his own Pokemon to go from one side of the ship to the other, and they did so.
Different Arbok can have different markings on their hoods, depending on what area they're from.
Ekans is once shown drinking tea (a scene often shown in anime to depict indifference), even though it has no hands.
Some of Ekans/Arbok's opponents in the show include: Pikachu, Rattata, Pidgey, Goldeen, Pidgeotto, Caterpie, Sandshrew, Gastly, Primeape, Geodude, Vulpix, Diglett, Dugtrio, Psyduck, Venonat, Ponyta, Charmander, Paras, Meowth, Jolteon, Eevee, Chansey and Starmie.
It is more the leader of itself and Koffing. Possibly because its master is also more assertive. But it's also more intelligent, although not quite as strong.
The cool WhiteCat informs me that in Island of the Giant Pokemon, Aabo refers to itself as 'ore' - a casual term, which also strongly implies that it is a male Pokemon.
Arbok is one of the largest Pokemon.
It has a very tolerant disposition.
In the episode "Clefairy and the Moon Stone" Ekans makes a couple of appearances. Does reasonably well, too. It is at L14 at that point in time.
The snake is in two songs; the aforementioned Pokemon Ondo, and it scores a mention (well, its names are said) in Pokemon Ieru Kana (the Japanese Pokemon rap). Here is its placement in those songs:
*from beginning*
Pikachu, Kairyu, Yadoran, Pigeon, Koduck, Koratta, Zubat, Gallop
Thunders, Menokurage, Powa, Karakara, Tamatama, Garagara, Fushigidane
Aabo, Ivui, Utsudon, Erebu...
*bit later, nearly half-way through the song*
Poppo, Utsuboto, Purin, Kesie, Betabeta, Garura, Gyarados, Goronya, Pippi, Ishitsubute
Golduck, Omanyte, Golbat, Arbok, Nidoran (mesu), Nidoran (osu), Nazonokusa
In the English Pokérap, its placement is:
Dugtrio, Golbat, Staryu, Magikarp. Ninetales, Ekans, Omastar. Scyther, Tenatcool, Dragonair, Magmar!
And Arbok is the very last Pokemon to be mentioned in the whole song! Cool! ^_^.
Okay, I'll admit it. I got the Ekans' Pokerap part from Lavender Town. I've seen that Pokerap, like, twice, and my memory sucks. ^_^;;
Little thoughts
I think Arbok should be able to learn the TM Mega Punch. No, it'd be interesting. *starts laughing*
I think Ekans/Arbok might be female. I mean, Ekans sounds like a guy, but Aabo is a bit more androgynous. It could be female. I mean, Jessie dressed it up in a skirt and hair-bow, so it could be, and in the Snorlax episode, Arbok puckering up bore strange resemblence to Patty/Selma kissing baby Lisa in the Simpsons. ^_^.
Either that, or Jessie has a strange fetish for making guys cross-dress. (Suddenly remembers James.) Oh, forget this. ^_^;;
Ekans seems more... innocent... than Arbok. But Arbok is a bit more spazz. ^_^.
I think Ekans likes James. It sometimes almost seems like it's partially his Pokemon. Like, he was sitting on it once, and it seemed to trust him (Primeape ep) and Jessie has referred to it as "our Ekans" or "our Arbok".
